Whale Sharks of Triton Bay
Tender to the Bugis fishing platforms in Triton Bay and slip in alongside whale sharks drawn to baitfish in the nets. Encounters can run for hours.
Tribes, whale sharks, the world's richest reefs, and the last chapters of the Age of Discovery.
The Journey
Over 13 nights, this itinerary covers east Indonesia's most captivating natural and historical wonders: indigenous Asmat tribes in West Papua, swimming with whale sharks in Triton Bay, Raja Ampat's bustling reefs, and the living history of the Spice Islands. Few itineraries on earth match the breadth of encounters packed into this one voyage.
This is the itinerary for intrepid travelers who want to make the most of their visit to this side of the world. Starting in West Papua's Asmat heartland and concluding in Ambon, the route traverses the full sweep of Indonesia's remotest eastern waters, from swampland mangroves to nutrient-rich Dampier Strait reefs and the fragrant market squares of the Banda Islands.
In order to fit these best sites into one expedition, this itinerary includes overnight passages between the major regions. The reward is a voyage that would take most travelers several separate trips to piece together, condensed into two unforgettable weeks at sea.
— Nikko Karki, Indo YachtsTwo weeks is what it takes to do the Asmat region, Triton Bay's whale sharks, southern Raja Ampat, and the Banda Sea in one trip. Few combinations in the world are this complete, fewer still on a yacht.

Your Charter Team
Thirteen nights is enough to cross a lot of Indonesia: the Asmat in West Papua, the whale sharks of Triton Bay, the reefs of Raja Ampat, the Spice Islands beyond. The question on a trip this long is how deep to go at each. Tell us which chapter pulls hardest for your group, and we will give it the room it deserves.
Yachts equipped for thirteen nights of true expedition sailing: long-range hulls, full provisioning, and the capability for the Asmat-to-Ambon crossing.

October through April offers the calmest seas and best diving visibility across the entire route. This period also aligns with peak whale shark activity in Triton Bay, when the aggregations around local fishing outposts are most reliable.
Whale shark sightings in Triton Bay are more reliable than almost anywhere else in the world, thanks to the fishermen bait stations the sharks associate with. That said, no wildlife encounter can ever be guaranteed, and conditions vary. We allocate two full days at Triton Bay precisely to maximise chances.
Absolutely. The Asmat tribe experience, village visits, waterfall cruising, Wayag hikes, and the Spice Islands are all above-water highlights. Snorkeling in both Triton Bay and Raja Ampat is exceptional, and discovery dives with the onboard PADI instructor are available for first-timers.
Yes. Your cruise director will adapt every day to conditions, interests, and discoveries. The Fakfak provisioning stop is the only logistical fixed point on the route. Everything else can be extended, shortened, or adjusted around what excites your group most.
