East & North Bali
Bali, Nusa Penida & Menjangan
Manta cleaning stations at Manta Point, wall diving on Nusa Penida's dramatic cliffs, and ancient temple trails along north Bali's quiet coast. Ideal for shorter charters staying closer to Denpasar.
Indonesia's gateway. Ancient culture, epic seas, endless east.
Situated eight degrees below the equator at the heart of the Indonesian archipelago, Bali is Indonesia's most internationally connected island and its most layered destination.
From Bali's eastern and northern shores, calm cruising grounds open east toward Lombok, Sumbawa, and Komodo National Park. The voyage crosses the Wallace Line, one of biology's most dramatic boundaries, where the lush flora of tropical Asia gives way to the drier, sunburnt landscapes of Australasia.
Lombok mirrors Bali's drama without the crowds. Rinjani, Indonesia's second-highest volcano, dominates the interior. The Gili Islands to the northwest have become a byword for tropical ease, with thriving turtle populations and clear snorkeling over coral gardens.

Most destinations in Indonesia require positioning: a long flight to a regional hub, then another hop to the charter port. Bali is different. Ngurah Rai International Airport connects directly to dozens of global hubs on carriers including Garuda Indonesia, Singapore Airlines, and Qantas.
For east-bound itineraries, a yacht charter from Bali quickly reaches Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan, where manta rays congregate at predictable cleaning stations and the walls of Crystal Bay drop to extraordinary depths.
Bali is the only Hindu-majority island in the world's largest Muslim-majority nation, and its spiritual life is impossible to ignore. Thousands of temples punctuate every landscape.
Pre- or post-charter, Bali rewards slow exploration. Ubud, the island's cultural heartland, offers immersion in traditional dance, woodcarving, and Balinese cuisine.
Lombok carries a different cultural register, shaped by the indigenous Sasak people and their own textile traditions, animist-influenced Islam, and village ceremonies that visitors rarely witness.

We Know These Waters
Our office is in Bali. We have been chartering from these shores since 2015, and we have run east-bound itineraries more times than we can count. We know which anchorages catch the morning calm on the Lombok Strait. We know where the mantas congregate off Nusa Penida, and which Gili island is right for which group.
We also know that the best Bali charters are rarely about Bali alone. They use the island as a launching point and let the sea reveal the rest.

Our Specialty
East-Bound Routes
Bali
Home Port
A charter from Bali can stay close and go deep, or press east through volcanic straits into an entirely different ecology. Each region offers something the others cannot.
East & North Bali
Manta cleaning stations at Manta Point, wall diving on Nusa Penida's dramatic cliffs, and ancient temple trails along north Bali's quiet coast. Ideal for shorter charters staying closer to Denpasar.
Lombok & The Gilis
Gili Trawangan's turtle reefs, the secret eleven Sekotong Gilis of the southwest coast, and the powerful surf of Kuta Lombok, all framed by Mount Rinjani's silhouette.
Sumbawa & The Gateway East
Satonda's saltwater crater lake, the waterfalls and coral gardens of Moyo Island, and the sweeping volcanic shores of Sumbawa's west coast before the Komodo passage opens.
From Bali's manta rays to Lombok's turtle-laced coral, these are the sites that define a Bali and Lombok charter itinerary.
Nusa Penida
Year-round cleaning station for oceanic manta rays; snorkelers and divers encounter them in the shallows above a rocky plateau.
Nusa Penida
Famous for its exceptional visibility and the seasonal presence of Mola mola (sunfish); advanced dive with strong current potential.
Northwest Bali
Dramatic vertical walls draped in gorgonian fans and sponges; among the best wall diving in Bali with calm, clear water.
Gili Islands, Lombok
Multiple sites around the Gilis offer high-density turtle encounters, vibrant coral gardens, and accessible diving for all levels including beginners.
Marine Life
Straddling the Wallace Line, the Bali and Lombok region hosts species from two distinct ecological worlds. The resulting biodiversity is among the richest in Indonesian waters.
Mobula birostris
Year-round residents at Manta Point off Nusa Penida, where they circle cleaning stations predictably: one of Indonesia's most reliable manta encounters.
Mola mola
Crystal Bay, Nusa Penida is one of the world's premier Mola mola sites; resident July through October when cooler upwellings bring them to cleaning stations.
Chelonia mydas
Dense resident populations around all three Gili Islands; snorkelers regularly encounter multiple individuals resting on the reef in a single session.
Triaenodon obesus
A consistent presence on Lombok's deeper reef margins, often resting in small groups beneath overhangs and patrolling the reef edge at dusk.
When to Go
Bali and Lombok follow the same monsoon pattern as Komodo. The dry season brings the best sailing conditions for east-bound itineraries.
Peak Season: May through October
The southeast trade winds deliver consistently dry weather, settled seas, and 20-30m visibility across most sites. This is the ideal window for east-bound voyages from Bali toward Lombok, Sumbawa, and Komodo. Water temperatures sit between 24-28°C. This season also coincides with the best Mola mola activity at Crystal Bay, typically peaking in July and August.
Transitional months offer lower charter rates and smaller crowds. Weather is generally manageable with some afternoon squalls. November can bring freshwater run-off that reduces visibility near river mouths but leaves offshore sites unaffected. April sees the transition to dry season with increasingly favorable conditions as the month progresses.
| Month | Conditions | Visibility | Mantas |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | Excellent | 10-20m | High |
| February | Excellent | 10-20m | High |
| March | Very Good | 12-20m | High |
| April | Very Good | 15-25m | High |
| May | Excellent | 20-30m | Medium |
| June | Good | 25-35m | Low |
| July | Excellent | 25-35m | Medium |
| August | Excellent | 25-35m | High |
| September | Excellent | 20-30m | High |
| October | Excellent | 20-28m | High |
| November | Good | 15-22m | Medium |
| December | Excellent | 12-20m | High |
Unlike destinations further east, Bali's northern coast and the Nusa Islands remain accessible for shorter charters even in the wetter months. Many clients combine a Bali hotel stay with a 3-4 night yacht excursion during December through March, keeping to protected eastern and northern waters where conditions are manageable. Speak with us about what's possible in any month.
Travel Logistics
Bali's Ngurah Rai airport is Indonesia's busiest international hub, receiving direct flights from over 50 international destinations. It is the most straightforward arrival point for any Indonesian charter. Garuda Indonesia, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Qantas, and dozens of regional carriers operate direct service.
Embarkation Points
Most Bali charters embark from Benoa Harbor in Denpasar's south, or from the Amankila beach on the quieter east coast for a more cinematic departure. North Bali's Lovina is used for itineraries heading directly to Menjangan and the northwest. We arrange all embarkation logistics.
For 7-night charters, a round-trip from Bali reaching as far as Lombok and the Gilis is comfortable. For 9 to 14 nights, one-way itineraries ending at Labuan Bajo (Komodo) or Lombok's Praya airport allow guests to maximize the journey east without backtracking.

From the Charter Team
Insider Knowledge
Our team lives and operates from Bali. These are the things no guidebook covers.
Benoa Harbor is efficient but industrial. For a departure that sets the tone, we arrange a beach launch from Amankila on east Bali, one of the island's most beautiful stretches of coast, with the yacht anchored just offshore. We pioneered this for charter guests, and the experience transforms the mood of the entire voyage from the first moment.
Mola Mola Window: July 15 to September 30
The sunfish appear reliably within this window, driven up by the cold upwellings that enter from the south. Book your charter to include at least two attempts at Crystal Bay during this period. We can usually reach them before the day-trip crowds arrive from Sanur by anchoring overnight near Nusa Penida.
While Gili Trawangan has become genuinely crowded, the eleven Sekotong islands off southwest Lombok see almost no visiting yachts. The snorkeling is calm and clear, the beaches are empty, and the local pearl-farming families welcome visitors warmly. Any week-long itinerary from Bali through Lombok should include at least one night here.
Ask your captain to mark the crossing. The Lombok Strait is where two biological worlds divide, and the transition is visible: the vegetation dries and browns eastward, the bird calls change, and even the light feels different. We brief guests before the crossing so they can observe the shift consciously. It is one of the most quietly extraordinary moments of the voyage.
The north coast between Lovina and Menjangan is a reliable dolphin corridor, particularly in the early morning. Spinner dolphins are a constant companion along this stretch. We route morning transits along this coast rather than the direct path to ensure guests see them naturally, not as part of a dolphin-watching tour boat formation.
Guests who arrive exhausted board exhausted. We recommend two nights in Ubud before embarkation: the altitude cools things, the pace slows, and the food is Bali's best. This transition time also protects the itinerary if flights are delayed. We can arrange Ubud accommodation, drivers, and temple visits as part of our charter planning service.

Bali and Lombok are just the beginning. These destinations lie further east, each reachable by yacht from a Bali departure.

May through October is the optimal window: dry weather, settled seas, 20-30m visibility, and the Mola mola season at Crystal Bay. July and August are peak and require advance booking. April and November offer shoulder-season rates with generally manageable conditions.
Yes, for 7-night itineraries staying within the Bali-Lombok range. For longer voyages heading to Komodo or beyond, one-way charters ending at Labuan Bajo (Komodo) or Lombok's Praya airport allow guests to see more without backtracking. We advise based on your group's priorities.
Charter rates depend on vessel, duration, and season. Luxury phinisi typically range from $25,000 to $80,000 per week, with the most renowned vessels priced on request. Budget approximately $4,000 to $10,000 per person for a fully crewed charter.
Bali is among the most family-friendly charter destinations in Indonesia. The Nusa Islands and Gili Islands offer calm, clear anchorages ideal for children learning to snorkel. The cultural access from Bali also provides rich shore experiences suitable for older children and teenagers.
