The Yacht

Purpose-built to bring the outside in, without compromise

Rebel launched in 2020, the result of a deliberate decision to rethink what a 30-meter charter phinisi should be. Where most vessels of this class place their cabins below the waterline, Rebel's designers moved all five entirely above deck. Every cabin sits at or above sea level, with natural light and ocean views available from each one throughout the day.

The hull is built to traditional phinisi proportions, 30 meters in length with a 7.4-meter beam and a 3-meter draft. That draft gives Rebel access to shallower anchorages that deeper-keel vessels have to skip. The teak flooring is carried throughout interior spaces, with high ceilings in every cabin adding a sense of volume that below-deck alternatives rarely achieve at this length.

Rebel is the sister ship to Rascal, sharing the same naval architecture but with a distinct interior identity. Where Rascal leans into expedition credibility, Rebel reads more like a beach house that happens to float: crisp, warm, and uncluttered. The 1,280-square-foot roof deck is the centerpiece of the exterior, offering panoramic sightlines that no enclosed saloon can replicate.

The galley operates in partnership with Watercress, a Bali-based restaurant whose menus form the backbone of Rebel's dining program. Proof and Company, the Singapore cocktail consultancy behind some of Southeast Asia's better bar lists, shaped the beverage offering. These are not supplier relationships in name only: the menus were built specifically for the vessel and its destinations.

At ten guests to eleven crew, the ratio aboard Rebel is just over 1:1. That density of service is felt rather than announced. It shows in the timing of meals, the pre-empting of requests, the way the day transitions from diving to sundowners without the guests needing to coordinate anything.

The Experience

A Day Aboard Rebel

Mornings begin at anchor, usually in a bay you have to yourself. The light through the cabin windows is direct and warm, not the filtered glow of a porthole below the waterline. By the time breakfast is laid on the main deck, the crew has already deployed the dive equipment and briefed the PADI dive instructor on the day's site. The two RIB tenders run continuously during dive mornings, ferrying guests between the yacht and the reef at whatever rhythm they prefer.

After the midday meal, the pace shifts. The roof deck claims most guests by 2 p.m.: 1,280 square feet of teak, sun loungers, and unobstructed horizon. Kayaks and paddleboards go out in the late afternoon. Sundowners are taken up top as the light changes color over the water. Dinner is served on the alfresco deck, with the Watercress menu running to three courses of Asian fusion cuisine. The cocktail list, built around the Proof and Company program, takes over after dark. The crew remains present, attentive, and unhurried.

Accommodation

Five Above-Deck Sanctuaries

Every cabin on Rebel is deliberately placed above deck, a design decision that changes the character of the spaces entirely. Natural light enters from multiple angles throughout the day. Each room is air conditioned with teak floors, high ceilings, and an ensuite bathroom. Flat-screen televisions carry a library of several hundred films, and the interactive music system lets guests set the tone from their own device.

The master suite occupies the prime position on the upper deck, with a king-size bed and a private balcony where two lounge chairs sit level with the horizon. One further double cabin shares the upper deck. The remaining three cabins are on the main deck: two configured as doubles, one with bunk beds. That last cabin makes Rebel one of the few charter yachts at this price point that works well for families with children of any age.

"

Raja Ampat is the most beautiful place I've ever visited, and our trip was made even better by being on board Rebel. The gorgeous interiors, the delicious meals, the friendly crew, the amazing activities, all of it exceeded our expectations. We'll definitely be back.
