The Yacht

A phinisi built for divers, with a camera room to match

Fenides first sailed in 2019. She was commissioned by an owner with a long-standing track record running dive operations in Indonesia, and the boat reflects what that experience teaches: the dive program is the spine, and everything else is built around it. The brief was a phinisi that would work the same regions Indonesian dive resorts have been working for years, with the operational standard guests expect from a properly run land-based dive center.

Her hull follows the phinisi tradition that has worked these waters for centuries. The interior reads in clean lines, white surfaces, and light wood, an aesthetic the original brief described as the yacht's signature style. The result is calm rather than ornate, which suits guests who spend most of the day in the water and want the boat to settle around them in the evening.

Two fiberglass tenders run independently. One serves the dive program; the other handles exploration and beach transfers. Up to four dives per day are offered, including dawn and night dives where conditions allow. The crew is familiar with the current patterns at the major Komodo and Raja Ampat sites, and adapts the daily plan to who is in the water that morning rather than running a fixed schedule.

What sets Fenides apart at this size is the climate-controlled camera room. Six editing desks, properly cooled, with the workflow space for guests returning from a morning dive to download, sort, and process their files in the heat of the day rather than after dinner.

It is the detail that makes Fenides a working tool for guests who treat their underwater photography seriously. Few liveaboards in this category bother with that kind of facility; it costs interior space, and most owners would rather use the square meters for guest seating. Fenides was built on a different premise, and the camera room is the most concrete piece of evidence for it.

The Experience

A Day Aboard Fenides

The anchor chain rattles up before first light. By the time guests reach the deck with coffee, the morning dive site has been briefed and the tender is ready. With a crew of fifteen looking after up to eleven guests, no one is queuing for a dive guide or for tank changes. Briefings are tailored to who is in the water that morning, which makes the difference on the more demanding sites where buddy pairs need to know exactly what the current is going to do.

Afternoons run slower. Some guests return to the camera room to sort the morning's frames at one of the six edit desks, climate-controlled and laid out for actual workflow. Others take the second tender to a beach the crew has set up for the afternoon, with chairs in the shade and cold drinks on hand. Evenings settle around dinner under the equatorial sky, with an Indonesian chef who learns guest preferences in the first day and cooks accordingly for the rest of the trip.

Dive Operations

Fenides is owned by a company with a long-standing track record as a dive resort operator. That operational background is what guests feel on board: the dive deck is laid out for fast turnarounds, equipment is stocked for the full guest complement, and the crew works the dive schedule around the conditions, not the timetable. Dawn and night dives run when the site rewards them.

Accommodation

Five Private Spaces

The two double cabins sit on the upper deck. Panoramic windows on either side, the same light-wood-and-white palette that runs through the rest of the boat, and good cross-ventilation when the breeze cooperates. The master cabin and two twin cabins are on the lower deck. The master is the largest of the five, with a double bed plus a single day bed, en-suite bathroom, and independent climate control.

All five cabins are en-suite with hot-water showers and the same quality linen. Each has its own air conditioning system, which matters on still nights at anchor when guests want the temperature set exactly where they want it.

Thanks again for an incredible 7 days on board Fenides. So many amazing moments: the sunset on Padar, the giant sea turtle, the candlelight dinner on the beach, and many more. We wish you and the crew all the best.
