Spice Island Forts
Walk the ramparts of Fort Belgica on Banda Neira, once the center of the global nutmeg trade and the most hotly contested island in the world.
A 12-night ocean voyage from Ambon through the Banda Sea to Maumere.
The Journey
From Ambon, the fragrant heart of the Moluccas, you sail east and south through an archipelago that once drew the world's empires to its shores. Past conical volcanoes rising from the Banda Sea. Through islands where the air is still thick with cloves and nutmeg. Across passages where sperm whales and orcas are sometimes sighted on the overnight crossings.
This is one of the least-visited stretches of Indonesian waters: remote, historically layered, and biologically extraordinary. The itinerary suits travelers seeking immersion in living history, serious underwater exploration, and the rare satisfaction of arriving somewhere genuinely off the map.
— Nikko Karki, Indo YachtsTwelve nights is the right length for the Banda Sea. Pulau Run was the island Britain traded the Dutch for Manhattan in 1667, the village still has Dutch cannons. Few visitors see this.
Fort Belgica crowns Banda Neira, once the most contested island in the world for its nutmeg.

Your Charter Team
The Banda Sea is remote enough that little has changed there since the days of the spice trade, and that is the appeal. Some groups come for that history, the forts and the nutmeg islands; others come for the diving and the empty water. The route holds both, in whatever proportion suits you. Tell us which pulls harder, and we will build the week around it.
Yachts equipped for the historic Maluku passage: long range across open water and the cultural pedigree for the trading-era island stops.

October through April offers the most favorable conditions in the Banda Sea, with calmer waters on the overnight passages and good underwater visibility. October and November are particularly good for possible sperm whale and orca sightings on the crossings.
This is a sample itinerary intended to provide an example of retracing the ancient Spice Routes. Your cruise director will adapt each day to your group's interests, weather conditions, and on-the-water discoveries. More diving, more village time, more sailing: it's your voyage.
The Banda Sea sites range from sheltered reef dives suitable for intermediate divers to strong-current pelagic sites in Alor that suit experienced divers. Snorkelers have excellent encounters at most stops. Your charter specialist will brief dive sites day by day according to your group's level.
Ambon (AMQ) connects via Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air from Jakarta and Bali. Maumere (MOF) connects to Bali and Makassar via daily flights. We arrange private transfers to and from the harbor at both ends. Fly-in times should be confirmed with us before booking flights.
